The Iowa Department of Public Health on Saturday reported 4,249 new coronavirus cases and 14 additional deaths as more counties report a high positivity rate.As of 10 a.m. Saturday, the health department reported 148,391 total positive cases, 100,346 total recoveries and 1,829 total deaths since the pandemic began. The state reported 144,142 total cases and 1,815 total deaths 24 hours earlier.Health department data shows 1,021,858 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19. The health department received 6,479 lab test results in the previous day, with 1,841 positive cases. Iowa reports a 14-day positivity rate of 18.6%.State data shows 79 of Iowa’s 99 counties report a positivity rate greater than 15% over the last 14 days. That means public schools in those counties can apply for a waiver to provide 100% online learning. Jones County reports a 41.2% positivity rate. Three counties report a rate above 30% and 33 counties report a positivity rate greater than 20%.There are currently 901 Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19, down from a record 912 the previous day. Iowa had set records for virus hospitalizations the 12 previous days. There were a record 165 patients hospitalized in the last 24 hours, up from 164 the previous day. There are 194 Iowans listed in intensive care, up from 188 the previous day and a record total. There are currently 72 patients on ventilators, up from 67 the previous day.
